Charles Cobb Riddle, Sr.

Tribute

Charles Cobb Riddle, Sr. (82) joined his Lord and Savior on Tuesday May 26, 2020 at Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point NC. He entered his heavenly home with family by his side.

He was born on November 29, 1937 in Raleigh NC.; the son of Caswell Archer Riddle and Eleanor Denmark Cobb Riddle. He graduated from Broughton High School in Raleigh and then enrolled and graduated from High Point College/University. He served his country for eight years as a member of the Army Reserve and National Guard. For seventeen years he worked as an executive with the Boy Scouts of America serving BSA Councils in NC, New York and Ohio; as President and CEO of five local United Way Organizations in NC, Ohio, Illinois and Maryland for 26 years, as Triad Area Director of the Alzheimer’s Association in Charlotte, NC for three years and as Administrator/Superintendent of Heritage Christian School in Canton, Ohio for three years. He was a member of various Rotary Clubs for 53 years and a Paul Harris Fellow. Charles was an active member of First United Methodist Church in High Point for over 16 years. He was admired as a wonderful Sunday school teacher due to his love and knowledge of the Bible. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Charles leaves his wife of almost 60 years, Frances Carolyn Gibbs Riddle; three sons Charles Cobb Riddle, Jr. and wife Sara Kathryn Riddle of Kernersville NC; David Archer Riddle and wife Michelle Valenzuela of High Point, NC; and Stephen Orland Riddle and wife Laurie Lynch Riddle of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by grandchildren, Katlin Riddle, Christopher Riddle, Matthew Riddle, Kathryn Riddle Zeblo (Michael), Elizabeth Riddle, Margaret Riddle, Grace Riddle; great-grandchildren, Eleanor James Zeblo; his brother Caswell Riddle and wife Beth of Greensboro. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

His legacy of Christian service to his God, his Family and his Country was demonstrated throughout his life of service to his church, his family, his country, and his fellow man. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to thank the team of caregivers at Hospice of the Piedmont, who provided such compassionate care for Charles and support for the family.

The family will have a private inurnment for Charles at First United Methodist Church Columbarium in High Point, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church 512 N. Main St., High Point, NC 27260, or Boy Scouts of America, or Hospice of the Piedmont.
