Mr. Chonkie James Yow

        Mr. Charles “Chonkie” James Yow Sr., 82, resident of Trinity, died July 1, 2016 at High Point Regional Hospital.
Mr. Yow was born July 26, 1933 in High Point, a son to the late Luther J. and Edna Blanche Livengood Yow.  He was a member of the High Point Fire Department and later joined the U.S. Navy where he served in the Korean Conflict on the USS James C. Owens, a destroyer.  He retired as owner of Y & B Crane Rental Inc. and also from the Operating Engineers Local 77 in Washington D.C., where he lived many years.  After moving back to this area around 2000, he became a charter member of Unity Wesleyan Church and was very active there.  He loved wood working and also trains, even owning his own and hosting various youth group rides.  He also loved the Washington Redskins and his many dogs, especially Ralph.  In 1952 he married the former Crissie Mae Parsons who survives of the residence.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Crystal Gaynell Yow; a son-in-law, Eddie Bryant; and a grandson, Edward “Bud” Bryant.
Also surviving are three children, Charlene Lamb and husband Kevin of Trinity, Jim Yow and wife Diana of La Plata, MD and Clairisa Bryant of Hughesville, MD; a sister, Peggy Yow of Orlando, FL; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Dr. Forbis Kivett and Rev. Mark Lowman officiating.  Entombment with military honors will follow at Floral Garden Park Mausoleum.  Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to Unity Wesleyan Church, 5289 Hopewell Church Rd.
