Colleen Marie Thurber Crater, 92, of High Point, passed away June 1, 2018. She was born May 23, 1926, in Guilford County, to the late Marvin and Thelma Thurber. For many years, Colleen was employed as an auditor with Holiday Inn. She was also a member of First Baptist Church of High Point. Colleen will be remembered and missed by all for her dedication and devotion to her family, friends and colleagues. She made it her passion to help everyone she met. She was the #1 fan of the UT Vols and Atlanta Braves.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Ross Crater; and her son, Stephen Ross Crater. Survivors include her son, Christopher L. Compton and wife Adriana of Florida; grandson, Larry A. Powell and wife Cindi Thomasville; daughter, Susan C. Kersey and husband Roger of Thomasville; sister, Eloise Joanne Bates; brother, Donald Thurber; granddaughters, Michele Compton and Jennifer Carroll; niece, Laura Allen and husband Bill. She had many great grandkids who adored her dearly: Kade, CJ, Mia and Zoe Compton; Kaitlyn and Megan Powell; Jesse Compton; Ryan Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Reverend Bruce Hartgrove officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Springfield Friends Meeting Cemetery.
