ARCHDALE – Crockett Blankenship, Sr., 77, a loving husband, father, Pawpaw, great-Pawpaw, brother and friend, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 7, 2021.
He was born December 6, 1943 in Argo, Kentucky and was the son of the late Arthur and Edna Blankenship. Crockett worked as a coal miner in the mountains of Virginia and Kentucky for over twenty years. Later he moved his family to North Carolina and became a truck driver until retirement. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, old western movies, and word search puzzles. He spent most of his days with his best friend and wife. Crockett was a quiet, reserved man and provided for and loved his family above all, reminding them often.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Steven “Steve” Blankenship; and sister, Earlene Logan.
Crockett is survived by his wife of 53 years, Doris Goodman Blankenship, whom he married on March 6, 1967; daughter-in-law, Penny Trotter Blankenship of Archdale; children, Stephanie Blankenship (Mark) of Trinity, Crockett Blankenship, Jr. (Kristie) of Troy, Ray Blankenship (Dawn) of Archdale, and Disiree Blankenship of Archdale; ten grandchildren, Logan, Kyndall (Adam), Kylie, Kourtnie, Lechele, Brendan, Adessa, Abbie, Bailey and Jesse; five great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Paisley, Kinsley, Brooklyn and Brantley; four brothers, Arvil Blankenship (Victoria) of Stopover, KY, Arson Blankenship of Georgetown, KY, Dallas Blankenship of Stanton, KY, and Allen Blankenship (Maria) of Cynthiana, KY; and a large number of extended family.
Funeral service celebrating Crockett’s life will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 12, 2021, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service with Rev. Tony Moore officiating. Burial will follow at GuilRand Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 PM Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
