David Reese Golden

Mr. David Reese Golden, 58, beloved husband of Susan O’Connell Golden, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 surrounded by his family.

David was born January 25, 1960 in Oceanside, CA, the son of Mary Young Golden and the late Lt. Col (Ret.) Glen Golden.  To know David was to know a man that was witty, kind, gentle and smart.  He was able to create a friend out of a stranger and always made those around him feel loved and special.  David proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was the owner of Golden Assembly Incorporated until his health declined.

He felt his greatest purpose in life was to be a father to his son.  He was tremendously proud of the man Brandon has become and the future he has created for his family.

David will forever be remembered by his wife and best friend of 33 years, Susan O’Connell Golden.  He was a fun loving father to his son, David Brandon Golden and wife Emily; was a doting grandfather of Hudson David Golden; a beloved son of Mary Young Golden; a dear brother of his sisters, Leah Moir (David) and Julia Alfred (Fred); a loving son-in-law of Daniel O’Connell; a caring brother-in-law to Cathy Bolick (Jay), Laura Ball, Danny O’Connell (Rae), Tom O’Connell (Lisa) and Maureen Putnam; a treasured uncle of Brian Moir, Kylie Brown, Lora Alfred, Amy Cole (Brian), Brian Short (Amanda), Matthew Short, Amber Tedrick (Ryan), Cameron O’Connell and Alex O’Connell; and great uncle of Ellie Reese Moir.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Madeline and Reese Golden; maternal grandparents, Mary and Venard Young; his mother-in-law, Anne O’Connell and brother-in-law, Greg Putnam.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Reverend Thomas P. Norris, O.S.F.S. and Deacon Wally Haarsgaard officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church and also Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.  The family would like to extend their grateful thanks to Hospice of the Piedmont for their compassionate care.
