ARCHDALE-David Rains, 70, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2019.
He was born on August 15, 1949 in High Point, to the late Floyd and Hilda Saunders Rains. A resident of this area all his life, he was a 1967 graduate of Trinity High School, and 10 year veteran of the US Navy, serving in Vietnam. He was a member of Archdale United Methodist Church and was a retired employee of Akzo Nobel Coatings. David enjoyed fishing, playing golf and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle and will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was a grandson, John Robert Safriet Cox.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sandy Hedgecock Rains; his sons, Patrick Rains (Keysha) and Brian Leon Guerrero; his daughter, Sheila Rains; his step daughter, Melissa Tackas (Ed); his step son; Michael Harmon; his sister, Barbara Harper; his brothers, Randy Rains (Cindy) and Jeff Rains (Jenny). Also surviving are his grandchildren, William Rains, Brayden Rains, Mackenzie Rains, Bryan Spencer, Isaiah Michael, Brandon Cox, Andrew Cox, Marissa Leon Guerrero, Joseph Leon Guerrero, Olivia Leon Guerrero, and Savannah Fisher; a number of great grandchildren; his niece, Courtney Rains, and his nephews, William T. Rains, Gregory Rains, Garrett Rains, Wyatt Rains, Gavin Rains and Taylor Harper.
A service to celebrate David’s life will be held on Monday morning, August 26, at 11 o’clock, at Archdale United Methodist Church, with Reverend Harold Shives officiating. A committal service will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery, with Military Honors accorded by the US Navy and the Randolph County Honor Guard. His family will receive friends on Sunday evening, August 25, from 6 until 8 o’clock, at Cumby Family Funeral Service of Archdale, and other times will be at the residence.
