Mr. David Brian Wood, 64, resident of High Point, passed away Monday, November 13, 2017 at his home.
David was born May 17, 1953, the son of Max Rogers Wood and Martha Ann Hoover Wood. He graduated from Trinity High School, class of 1971, and attended the University of North Carolina – Greensboro. David began his career at Guilford Fabricators and later owned and operated Wood Automotive Detail and Car Clean-Up in Archdale. After retiring, he chose to work in landscaping satisfying a desire to work closely with nature and create beautiful spaces around High Point.
David had many interests and hobbies throughout his life. Among those were his vast collection of rocks, minerals and gems. He was also a skilled artist and musician. He was a walking encyclopedia on astronomy and geology. David loved to share all of his self acquired knowledge with everyone. When David’s health began to fail, he had to give up his love of Harley Davidsons, golf and kayaking some of the major creeks and rivers in North Carolina and Virginia.
David married the former Phyllis Mills, who survives of the home. Although they had no children, David was blessed with her four grandchildren who he adored. In turn, they thought he was absolutely, without a doubt, the best “Poppi” ever. David was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his two sisters, Susan Williard (Coy) and Marian Workman (Mark); a brother, Ed Wood (Kim); his grandchildren that brought him so much joy, DaNya, MaRya, Keira and Danny Brooks III; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins to cherish him memory.
A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 30th, in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. The family will receive friends directly following the ceremony.
