THOMASVILLE – Debbie Sue Hamby Combs, 61, died Friday, February 3, 2023, at her residence.
She was born June 22, 1961, in Norfolk, Virginia, and was the daughter of Jimmy Ray Hamby, Sr. and the late Emma Sue York Hamby who preceded her in death on January 10, 2023. Debbie was a member of the former Almond Baptist Mission Church in Bryson City and worked as a home health caregiver for several years. She enjoyed camping, fishing, cooking and cleaning, and her greatest joy was her grandchildren.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ricky Combs.
Debbie is survived by two daughters, Sabrina Hinson Laws of Greensboro and Crystal Gordon of Thomasville; five grandchildren, Mercedes Cowart, Heather Kapp (Jonathan), Austin Hinson, Felicity Gordon and Alyssa Gordon; a great-granddaughter, Elliana; her father, Jimmy Ray Hamby, Sr. (Jane); three brothers, Jimmy Ray Hamby, Jr. (Shari) both of Shoals, Indiana, Edward Thomas Hamby (Crystal) and Michael Lee Hamby (Donna), both of Thomasville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will conduct a memorial service celebrating both Debbie’s and her mother, Emma York Hamby’s, life at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Johnson Street in High Point. Service arrangements will be announced.
