Donald Lee Embler, 90, died peacefully on December 2, 2017 at Hospice Home at High Point.

Donald was born in Guilford County on September 15, 1927 to the late Harvey Embler and Maude Cross Embler.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Mildred Marie Sharpe Embler in 2015.

He was very active in sports as a young man playing basketball in High Point/Central High School where he graduated Class of 1945. Enlisting in the U.S. Army he served as a Military Police in post-war Japan. While in the Army he played basketball in Japan.  Upon his return he enrolled at High Point College and there he also played basketball and graduated Class of 1950.  Donald would continue his love of basketball by later refereeing both men’s and women’s High School and College games.  

In his younger years he was a model plane enthusiast, loved the playing golf locally and Myrtle Beach and Pinehurst as well as many other fine golf courses.  Donald was an active and longtime member of Green Street Baptist Church.  He worked as an Advertising Executive for Meyers and Johnson Marsh and also for the Winston-Salem Journal newspaper.

Those who are left to cherish his memories as Dad are his two children; Gary L. Embler and wife, Bonnie of California, Donna E. Brennan and Husband Terry of New Jersey.  He will be missed as loving Grandfather to Kelsey and Haley Brennan and beloved brother to David Alton Embler and wife, Sue of Jamestown.

A service to honor Donald’s life will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service 1015 Eastchester Drive in High Point. Rev. Frank Hensley will be officiating the service and burial will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 1:45 prior to the service.
