Donald Jerry Gooch

Mr. Donald Jerry Gooch, 84, resident of Archdale, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 16, 2020 at Forsyth Medical Center. 

He was born on January 16, 1936 in Davidson County, a son to the late Homer and Nora Gooch. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Gooch; a brother Harold Gooch, and a sister Nel Bean.

A resident of this area all his life, he was a graduate Pilot High School and retired from the US Navy, having served aboard a PBR gunboat in Vietnam, from 1969-1970.  Prior to his declining health, you would find him on the golf course, and he was a member of Rich Fork Baptist Church in Thomasville.

He is survived by his sons, Jerry Gooch (Patty) of New Bern, Rick Gooch (Donna) of Wallburg, Donnie Gooch (Dianne) of Kernersville and Randy Gooch (Paul) of High Point; a brother Ronald Gooch (Patty) of Thomasville; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Don’s life will be held on Monday afternoon, January 20, at 2 o’clock, at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with Reverend Roger Carmichael officiating. The committal will follow in Guildford Memorial Park Cemetery, with Military Honors by the US Navy Honor Guard and the Randolph County Honor Guard. His family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 12:45 until 1:45, at the funeral home.
