Donald Thurman Johnson passed away on June 1, 2018 at Hospice Home in High Point.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Johnson, he was born on August 2, 1932. He attended High Point Central High School. After high school, he married his high school sweetheart and joined the United States Marine Corp. He served his country during the Korean War. After working in the textile industry for many years, Donald pursued his love of business. He continued as a buyer in the fabric industry and went on to start his own successful company, Dawn Fabrics in High Point.
Donald attended First Wesleyan Church in High Point. His faith was the cornerstone of his life and the foundation of all that he loved and held dear. He will be remembered for his love of family and friends. His generosity to others was unsurpassed. He was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
Donald loved life and loved his wife, Jerry. His hobbies were golf, jigsaw puzzles and his wildflower garden. He was a modern thinker and loved to explore the wonders of technology. Whether traveling to exotic places or making wonderful memories at home with their family, Donald and Jerry shared many adventures and made a wonderful life together. They were married for 64 years and are happily reunited in Heaven.
Donald is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Underwood and her husband, Christopher Miller; his son, Donald Jeffrey Johnson; his granddaughter, Laura Underwood Baigas and her husband, Phillip Baigas; his grandson, Matthew Johnson and his wife Christina and their daughters Natalie and Emily. Also surviving are his nephew, Len Johnson and his wife, Pam, and his great-nephews, Phillip and Josh Johnson. Lastly, Donald is survived by his beloved canine companion, JD.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on June 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, NC, officiated by Rev. Harold Shives. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Following the interment, a reception will be held at Giannos restaurant, 1124 Eastchester Dr., in High Point.
