Mrs. Doris Frances Brooks Spencer, 85, resident of Archdale, died September 26, 2018 at Graybrier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Trinity.
Mrs. Spencer was born February 5, 1933 in High Point, a daughter to the late Walter and Constance Marley Brooks. As a resident of this area all her life, she attended High Point City Schools and later, High Point Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1952. She remained a nurse until retirement, working in several different offices, and also co-owned Red Dot Supermarket along with her husband. She was a member of Archdale Friends Meeting, the John Archdale Sunday School Class, and was active in many organizations throughout her life including, the Pride and Patience Garden Club, Archdale-Trinity Woman’s Club, Randolph County Schools Advisory Board, the Dine and Dance Club, High Point Memorial Hospital Advisory Board, Hospice of the Piedmont Board, American Red Cross (Thomasville Chapter), ABWA (Golden Arch Chapter), A-T Pilot Club, Tempo Dance Club, Randolph County Board of Health and Archdale City Council. In several of these organizations, she was a charter or founding member. On August 11, 1952 she married Robert J. Spencer Jr. who preceded her in death on March 15, 2005. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded by her son, John Alexander “Alex” Spencer; sister, Ruth Brooks Ferree; brother, James Alexander Marley; niece, Linda Ferree Howington; brothers-in- law; Jay Ferree and Harold Spencer; and sisters-in-law, Irene Spencer Farlow, Betty Lou Spencer Small and Jeanette Spencer Tucker.
Surviving are daughters, Brooks Spencer Mullane and husband Dennis of McLeansville and Margaret “Meg” Frances Spencer of Archdale; son, Robert “Bob” J. Spencer III and wife Elizabeth of Randleman; grandchildren, Melinda Spencer Wallace, Jessica Spencer, Elias Mullane and wife Kristen, Elizabeth Mullane and husband Jim, Madeline Mullane Fraher and husband Ian, Emily Mullane, Adam Spencer and wife Jennifer and Victoria Spencer; great grandchildren, Aidan Mullane, Farrah Mullane, Ian Mullane, Dakota Spencer, Spencer Gregory Royal, Finn Wallace and Emery Wallace; and two sisters-in-law, Marie Nooe and Janice Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Archdale Friends Meeting with Pastor Rusty Parsons officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the John Archdale Sunday School Class. Visitation will immediately follow the service in the Meeting fellowship hall. A private inurnment will follow the visitation at the Meeting columbarium.
