Dorothy (Chesson) English

ARCHDALE – Dorothy Chesson English, 100, died Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at her residence.

She was born March 17, 1918, in Chowan County, NC, and was the daughter of the late Louis and Lina Spruill Chesson.  She was the oldest living member of Archdale Friends Meeting.  Dorothy was a retired teller from Wachovia Bank and was the first female bank teller in High Point. Following her retirement, she operated her own bus tour business.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, M. Albion English, Jr.; daughter, Brenda English Martin; five sisters, Selma Proctor, Ruth Willis, Elsie Davis, Essie Harvell, and Lina Russell; and three brothers, Paul, Floyd, and Blount Chesson.

She is survived by her son, Al English III and his wife, Linda Hohn English, of Archdale; two grandchildren, Alison Haynes and her husband, Matt, of Lynchburg, VA, and Adam English of Seagrove; and two great-grandchildren, Honor Haynes and Tristan English.

Funeral service celebrating Dorothy’s life will held at 2:30 PM Monday, December 3, 2018, in the Chapel of Oakwood Cemetery Mausoleum in High Point with entombment following.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Monday at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
