Dorothy Irene Westhafer MacDonald, 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
Dorothy was born June 29, 1923 in Mt Vernon, Illinois, to the late Hiram and Molly Westhafer. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Major Wendell L. Leach (USAF) and Colonel Nelson J. MacDonald (USAF); two grandsons, Troy Leach, Ryan L. Leach and three sisters.
As a military wife, Dorothy was a world traveler and had many exciting stories about those times. She was active in the Officer's Wives Club, serving as president while in Albuquerque, NM. She loved family, the beach, the family dogs, good books and reading her Bible. Dorothy was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church.
Dorothy will be remembered as a wonderful mother, mother in law, Nana and caring friend. She lived a full life with many adventures and asked that we not mourn her death, but rather celebrate her life.
Those who will cherish Dorothy’s memories are her sons, Colonel Duane L. Leach (USMC) and wife, Cam of Southport, NC, Michael C. Leach and wife, Kathy of Greensboro; sister, JoAnn Gray of Missouri; grandchildren, Michele Gill and husband, Sean, Ryan F. Leach and Wife, Inna, Paul Bullard, Robin Stanfield and husband, Will; Anna Leach; Amanda Leach; and twelve great-grandchildren.
All services will be private and burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
