Mrs. Dorothy Blanton Vance, 91, resident of High Point, died September 14, 2018 at Pennybyrn at Maryfield.
Mrs. Vance was born January 2, 1927 in Shelby, NC, a daughter to the late Eura and Moseline Beam Blanton. In 1951, she moved to Boone and later came to High Point in 2001. She was a life-long caregiver, working as a nurse for 50 years and was also a member of Oak View Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Dr. Richard Vance and wife Marguerite of Louisville, KY, Dr. John Vance and wife Mary of High Point and Mr. Chuck Vance and wife Candace of Charlotte; three sisters, Margaret Green and husband Barry of Shelby, Edris Melton and husband Arvin of Shelby and Jeanette Ellis of Shelby; two brothers, Roland Blanton and wife Mary Sue of Shelby and Scott Blanton and wife Carol of Shelby; eight grandchildren, Laura Hammer and husband Lee, Catherine Wheatley and husband Nathan, Angela Knust and husband Adam, Caroline Nauert and husband Alex, Jack Vance and wife Shiloh, Alex Vance, Morgan Vance and Troy Vance; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Bettis; her brother, Bill Blanton and her former husband, Phil Vance.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held that afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Ross Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Shelby.
