Dot (Staton) Smith

Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Staton Smith, 92, formerly of Player Dr. in High Point, died April 16, 2019 at Hospice Home at High Point.

Mrs. Smith was born July 14, 1926 in Guilford County, a daughter of Lee T. and Susie Ann Wrenn Staton.  As a resident of this area all her life, she worked for both Slane and Amos Hosiery Mills and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.  She was first married to Edward Charles Hill and later to Clarence Burrows Smith, both of whom, preceded her in death.  For decades during Christmas, Dorothy and Clarence became Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, serving businesses, organizations, churches, schools and families throughout the community.  She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Bobby Hill, and a sister, Lucille Wilson.

Surviving is a son, Edward “Eddie” Lee Hill and wife Cindy of Trinity; two daughters, Penny Sue Hilton and husband Rick of Archdale and Debra Outlaw and husband Larry of Stafford, VA; a sister, Alene Holland of Florida; a brother, Donald Staton and wife Belle of High Point; twelve grandchildren, Donna Geisler (Damon), Donald Hill (Lisa), Candy Hill, Lee Hill (Jamie), Cassie Perrin (Steven), Tracy Trotter (Shaun), Dale Shivley (DeLyn), Richard Gerald Shivley (Tammy), Misty Teague (Brian), Kevin Outlaw, Andrew Outlaw (Kate) and Greg Outlaw; twenty four great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a special friend, Judy Annette Grissett.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Rev. Morris Little officiating.  Interment will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point.  Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
