High Point - Earl Richard Smith, Sr., 92, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, February 18, 2021.
Earl was born in High Point on August 20, 1928 to the late Pervie Smith and Leva Weavil Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Smith, brother, Bobby Smith,; sisters, Carolyn Goins and Jeanette Sumner.
Earl was a man strong in his Christian faith and was a member of Westchester Baptist Church where he served in many positions. Earl was in the United States Army. In 1947, he started Smith & Jennings Grading Company here in High Point.
Earl was an avid water skier and a member of the Clear Lake Ski Club where he won numerous State Championships and was the 1996 National Champion. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and loved time with his family.
Earl is survived by his wife, Theressa Smith; sons, David Smith and wife Amy of High Point, Earl Smith, Jr. and wife Barbara of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Heather Miller and Husband Mike of Raleigh, Adrian Lassiter and Husband Dean of Wilmington, Charles Smith of High Point, Ansley Frank-Smith and husband Evan of Ashville; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon Jacobs and husband, Phil and sister-in-law, Pearl Smith.
The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Westchester Baptist Church, 135 Westchester Drive in High Point. A celebration of Earl’s life and faith will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Eric Peacock officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
