Thomasville- Edith Bean Smith, 94, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on January 13, 1926 in High Point, a daughter of the late Grady and Luster Chandler Bean. A resident of this area all her life, she worked as a LPN from 1974 until 1992 at High Point Regional Hospital. She was a former member of Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church, where she taught Sunday school. Later she was a member of Westchester Baptist Church. Edith enjoyed studying the Bible, fishing, doing jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her family; especially her children and all her grandchildren. Beating anyone in checkers who had the nerve to challenge her would make her smile. She loved her Lord, her family and her friends and will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her husband, Thurman Norman, the father of her children, husband, Albert Byerly and husband, William “Bill” Smith; a daughter, Gloria Jean Norman; her brothers, Clifford Bean and Clyde Bean and 2 sisters, Dot Voncannon and Billie Dennis.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her children, Linda Clinard, Debbie Edwards, and Sharon Derbyshire and her husband, John; her sister, Helen Carmichael. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jeff Clinard and his wife, Thelma, Kim Edwards, Brian Edwards and his companion, Kimberly Holbrook, Megan Womble and her husband, Wilson, Jaiden Edwards, Heath King and his wife, Paige, Amber Clark and her husband, Josh, Jessica Wilson and her husband, Craig; her great grandchildren, Jonathan Gerringer, Dani Gerringer, Ashley Clinard, Jeffrey Clinard, Jr., and his wife Lisa, Anna King, Kara King, Leah King, Jacob Wilson, Hudson Clark, Mason and Logan Womble and her great- great grandchildren, Adely Gerringer and Mason Farmer.
Services to celebrate Edith’s life will be private.
