Edna Ruth Burgess Thomas of High Point entered into her eternal home on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from Hospice Home at High Point.
Ruth was born in Guilford County on January 23, 1928 to the late David Cornelius Burgess and Marjorie Leigh (McCarty) Burgess. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, David Paul Hobby, Thomas Edwin Burgess and Kenneth Roland Burgess; sister, Ellen Patton; and step-son, Ronald “Ronnie” Thomas.
A long-time resident of this area, Ruth worked for over 50 years at North State Telephone Company. Twenty eight of these years she worked as an Assistant Chief Operator.
For years she was an active member of Hasty Baptist Church. Later, she attended Christian Missionary Alliance Church and more recently Oakview Baptist Church. Ruth was very devoted to both family and friends. She was a friend to many and never met a stranger. Furthermore, Ruth was generous, kind, and soft hearted to the needy. She was very well loved by all. Ruth’s hobby was painting.
Family members who will cherish her memories are her brother, Jim Burgess (Norma) of Salisbury; nephews, Larry Patton and Eddie Burgess; nieces, Tammy Burgess, Wanda Clarke and Joan Dalusung and step-son David Thomas (Renee) of Davidson County.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 1:45 PM on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive in High Point. Rev. Steve Smith will officiate. Interment will be at Floral Garden Park Cemetery following the service.
