Hunter was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; his uncle, Marcus Prince III; his cousins, Marc Prince IV, Elizabeth Prince Gouge and his step-mother Dixie Davis.
Hunter graduated from Southwest Guilford in 1981, playing football as a defensive back under the coaching of his step-father and head coach, Roy Boyles. His senior year the Cowboys’ record was 10 – 0 and the team participated in the state playoffs.
Hunter graduated with honors from Appalachian State University, was an avid outdoorsman and a deck builder until a car accident in 1997 left him a quadriplegic. While he lived with his mother and step-father for 21 years, he enjoyed life fully, proving himself to be a “tech whiz” as he programmed many devices. Also, he especially loved fishing with his dad; following the Atlanta Braves and watching the Tarheels play basketball.
Ever an inspiration to all who knew him, Hunter dealt with the pain and complications of paralysis with such grace, never allowing his disability to diminish his joy in living, his optimism, his fortitude, his deep devotion to family and friends. Most of all, his love for his daughter and her love of him sustained him through many health struggles.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the doctors, nurses, CNA’s and all others who, over the years, supported Hunter and enriched his life. Without their constant care, his challenges would have been much more severe. Thank you, Thank you all.
