On Saturday morning, November 25, 2017, Jesus Christ came to receive Eugene Grant Gouge , known as Gene Gouge. Gene was born on July 9, 1929 to the late Ulysses and Mary Gouge in Gibbstown, New Jersey.
In 1976, Gene was baptized into the body of Christ and joined the First Assembly of God in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Gene was a man who knew no strangers and was known by many as the “Mayor of the Mountain “on Mountain Top Road in Blairsville, Georgia.
As a young man, Gene joined The Navy and served our country during the Korean War. In 1951 Gene fell in love and married Maureen Walker. They remained married for sixty-six years until his passing. Gene worked at Dupont for forty years as a Maintenance Supervisor and retired in 1986.
Gene loved his family and leaves to his loving memory: his wife, Maureen ; four children, David ( Paris,France), Jim (Greensboro, North Carolina), Beth ( Wilmington, North Carolina), and Paul (Maui, Hawaii). Gene was preceded in death by his daughter Debbie (Tulsa, Oklahoma). Gene also leaves behind eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
