Frank Russell Hassell, Jr.

GREENSBORO – Frank Russell Hassell, Jr., 64, died Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.  He was born April 29, 1954, in Guilford County and was the son of Joanne Wardell Hassell and the late Frank Russell Hassell.  Russ was a graduate of the University of South Carolina after attending Clemson University.  He remained a loyal Clemson fan throughout his life and was especially proud of their three national football championships.  Russ read extensively, and had a broad knowledge of science, music, history, and sports most often evidenced by his accurate Jeopardy responses.

He was a chemist at Unitex and then Lanxess Corporation in Greensboro for more than twenty years and was currently serving as a consultant with DayTech Solutions in Winston-Salem.  He was of the Methodist faith.

Russ is survived by his beloved mother, Joanne Hassell of Jamestown; sister, Tammy Hassell Pawloski and husband, Donald, of Florence, SC; brother, Michael K. Hassell and wife, Debbie, of Walhalla, SC; niece, Tonya Lee Ritola; and nephews, Sean Michael Hassell and John Joseph Hassell Pawloski.

A memorial service celebrating Russ’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 16, 2019, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Rev. Jim Watford officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
