Garland Blair, Jr.
HIGH POINT – Garland Augustin Blair, Jr., 85, died Sunday, May 27, 2018, at the Hospice Home of High Point.
He was born December 21, 1932, in High Point and was the son of the late Garland A. Blair, Sr. and Gladys Edmonds Blair. He was retired salesman in the lumber industry, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the Quaker faith. He was an accomplished small plane pilot and flew for Goodyear Racing and was active with Goodyear in stock car racing and NASCAR. For several years, he owned and drove a hobby stock car, competing at tracks such as Bowman Gray Stadium.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alwayne Albertson.
Garland is survived by two cousins, Sally Edmonds of High Point and James “Jimmy” Edmonds and his wife, Sharon, of Berryville, Virginia.
A memorial service celebrating Garland’s life will be held at a later date.
