George Purdie Godwin

Mr. George Purdie Godwin, 74, of High Point, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Born October 31, 1943, in Harnett County, George was the son of the late Carl F. Godwin and Ethel Robinson Godwin Elkins. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his step-father, Fred Elkins; daughter, Vera Allen; granddaughter, Heather Chriscoe; and two brothers, Carl Godwin and Jesse Elkins. George retired from the textile industry and was of the Baptist faith. He had a real talent for wood working and wood etching, and often made pieces of furniture to give to his family and dear friends. He also enjoyed working on small engines.

George is survived by his wife of 44 years, Stella Staley Godwin; three children, James Chriscoe and wife, Teresa, John Chriscoe, and Louise Kimery and husband, Sam; a sister, Joyce Faye Gaines; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, officiated by Rev. Roger Carmichael. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
