Georgia Beasley Orr

March 8, 1928 ~ April 27, 2021 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Tribute

Georgia Beasley Orr passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 after a rich life as the wife of an Air Force base commander, mother to four children, early computer programmer, and MBA graduate. She was a force and a woman ahead of her time.

Born in 1928 in Cheraw, SC to Alice Anderson Beasley and Henry Carrington Beasley, she was one of three sisters.  These sisters were her best friends through life, her older sister Bob Anne Gray and her younger sister Jane Moore.

Georgia graduated as a math major from Randolph Macon Woman’s College before marrying Lt. Col. Richard Orr in a double wedding alongside her older sister.  After 10 years of moving to multiple Air Force assignments across the country, Georgia, her husband, and their four children settled in Winston-Salem, NC in 1960.

One of Georgia’s proudest achievements was her work with computer programming in cardiology research at Wake Forest School of Medicine during the early 1970’s.  Years later Georgia boldly chose to earn an MBA at Wake Forest University and began to serve as a Board Member of the Palmetto Brick Company.

Moving to High Point, NC in 1985, Georgia continued her passion for gardening which included joining the Mid-Week Garden Club and spending time each year for 20 years exploring English gardens with her two sisters.  She was a productive member of the Eighth Day Unity Group of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and was a key contributor to the Gifts That Transform the World project.  Other memberships included the Wilson Quarterly discussion group and the High Point Study Club.

Georgia is preceded in death by her former husband and two beloved sisters.  She is survived by her four children Richard Orr, Jr. (Ivey), Mary Alice Ringo (Jim), Liston Orr (Carolyn), and Georgia Saylor (Greg). Her family includes 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren (and counting).

The service will be held Saturday, May 1st at 11:00 AM at the Wesley Memorial Church.  Livestream available as well at wesleymemorial.org  The family will greet friends on the front lawn following the service.

The family thanks the staff at Pennybyrn of Maryfield for their excellent care in Georgia’s final days.  In lieu of flowers, please mail donations for Feeding Lisa’s Kids to Wesley Memorial UMC, 1225 Chestnut Drive, High Point, NC 27262 (memo line of check: Feeding Lisa’s Kids).
