Mr. Gilbert Allen Kearns, 89, resident of High Point, died July 25, 2021 at Pennybyrn at Maryfield.
He was born March 9, 1932 in High Point, a son to the late Carl and Irene Baird Kearns. As a resident of this area all his life, he worked many years in the food service industry where he managed Cloverleaf, A&P, and MDI Grocery. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Christ United Methodist Church. On August 4, 1951, he married the former Carleene Brown who preceded him in death in 2007. Together they loved traveling as well as square and ballroom dancing. Gilbert also loved being with friends and especially loved spending time with his family.
Surviving is a son, Garry Kearns (Dawn) of High Point; two daughters, Karen Adams (Sid) of High Point and Kathy Ridenhour (Don) of High Point; a sister, Carlene Gilmer of Georgia; eight grandchildren, Tyler Adams (Jen) of Rock Hill, SC, Ashley Adams of Greenville, SC, Mackenzie Adams of Raleigh, Matthew Ridenhour of High Point, Kyle Ridenhour of High Point, Haley Turman (Daniel) of Archdale, Kaitlyn Summers (Victor) of Greer, SC, and Spencer Kearns of High Point; and two great grandchildren, Hazel and Mattie Turman. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lyles Kearns and Ovid Smith.
A private graveside service will be held at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point. A celebration of life service will be announced in the coming days.
