Glad Smith Lawson

Glad Smith Lawson, 94, of High Point passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Glad was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many.

Glad was a veteran of the Army having served during World War II.  He was a graduate of High Point College, where he met the love of his life, Kathryn to whom he was married for 70 years prior to her death in 2018.

Glad adored music and had a beautiful voice.  He sang in numerous choral groups and was a choir director, but his real passion was barbershop harmony.  He made many lifelong friends singing in quartets and won numerous awards doing so.  He also enjoyed golfing and spent many years volunteering at High Point Regional Hospital.

Surviving are daughter, Kathy Frazier and husband, Tom and son, Ron Lawson.  His six grandchildren, Michael Lawson and wife, Jennifer, Jamie Wilkins and husband, Stuart, Andrew Smith and wife, Katie, Kelly Amos and husband, Charles, Daniel Lawson and Olivia Lawson.  His great-grandchildren, Katie, Dylan, Sawyer, Lily, Caroline, Charlie, Jackson, Noah and Caden and a great-great grandson, Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn, his daughter, Libby, his son, Don, his parents, Hobert and Maud Lawson, as well as his brother, Paul Lawson and sister, Elizabeth Mickey.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Emerywood Baptist Church, 1300 Country Club Road in High Point.  Glad and Kathryn were charter members of Emerywood Baptist Church.  The service will start at 4:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends following the service.
