Please join the family of Gloria “Dee” Melton Scearce in celebrating a life well lived. Dee passed on to be with her Savior and Lord on January 19, 2022, at the age of 74.
After graduation from Allen Jay High School, Dee went on to work in insurance at Jefferson-Pilot Insurance, Prudential Insurance and as Office Manager at High Point Family Practice. Dee was retired from Cigna Insurance as Claims Director for the states of North Carolina and Tennessee.
For those who knew Dee, she will be best remembered for her genuine and caring spirit. As a member of Fairfield United Methodist Church, Dee used her love of cooking and crafts as she supported numerous ministry outreaches, including mission trips and the food pantry. Dee was a woman who put her love into action.
During her husband CL’s illness which spanned many of the last few years, Dee was his sole caregiver, even as she had declining health herself. A woman of wisdom, Dee always tried to remain positive in the face of adversity. Her faith in the Lord sustained her through some of life’s most difficult times. That same faith helps to sustain the family during these difficult times. Dee was preceded in death by her husband, CL Scearce of High Point; her beloved grandson Jordan Hardy of Thomasville; parents, Ellis and Agnes Melton of High Point; and sister, Pat Johnson of Louisville, Kentucky.
Dee is survived by those who will miss her dearly; her daughter, Shelia Davis Hardy of Thomasville; great-grandsons Brady and Braxton Hardy, and sisters Lucille Melton Garner (Roger) of Thomasville, Linda Melton Hill (Barry) of Kernersville and Gina Melton Pinyan (Joe) of Salisbury, along with many nieces and nephews.
Dee’s warm personality, love of people and gift of hospitality were at the heart of this Southern lady and always evident to those who had the privilege of meeting her. If you never got to meet her on this side of heaven, it is sadly your loss. But since no formal service will be held, if you did know her, we ask that you celebrate her life with the family by leaving your memories on Dee’s tribute page.
Proverbs 31:
28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate
