HIGH POINT-Homer “Switcher” Pope, 74, passed away on Tuesday, August 08, 2017.
He was born on June 1, 1943 in High Point, son of the late Fred and Dolly Byrd Pope. A resident of this area all of his life, he retired from Murrow's Transfer and he was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Switcher enjoyed drawing, talking on his CB radio and playing cards. He loved making people laugh; but his true love and passion was spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were 5 sisters, Jackie Robbins, Geraldine “Jerrie” Craven, Mary Lea Pope, Faye Hedgecock, and Linda Vittitoe; 2 brothers, Fred Pope and Ray Pope.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Connie Pope; his stepdaughters, Wendy Griffith and her husband, Jason, and Sherry Blakely; his sisters, Treva Hudson and her husband, Arlen, Gayle Griffin and her husband, Eddie; her brother, Jimmy Pope, Sr., and his wife, Frances. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Brittany, Dylan, and Jordan; his great granddaughter, Hayden, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Homer’s life will be held on Friday, August 11, at 2 pm, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, with Pastor Bobby Blackburn officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Thursday, August 10, from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home.
