James "Tommy" Campbell

ARCHDALE-James “Tommy” Campbell. 91, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 1, 2022.

He was born on May 2, 1931 in Moore County, NC, a son of the late George and Maggie Hyatt Campbell.  A resident of this area most of his life, he retired from Akzo Nobel and was a member of Hope Chapel Baptist Church. Tommy enjoyed watching NASCAR, golf and fishing at the coast. His true love and passion was his Lord and his family. He will be remembered as a strong Christian man who was a loving father, grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents preceding him in death were his first wife of 43 years, and the mother of his children, Stella Nations Campbell and his second wife of 24 years, Betty Lou Buffkin Campbell; a son, Danny Campbell; a daughter, Lawanda Murray; his sisters, Ozell Marsh,  Alvia Hutton and Mary Reed and his brothers, Lester, Conley and Roy.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his children, Johnny Campbell and his wife, Susan and Kay Hackaday; his step children, Jeff Buffkin and his wife, Christy and Regina Buffkin; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Tommy’s life will be held on Friday, August 5, at 11:00 a.m., from the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with Pastor Joe Bare officiating. The committal service will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Randolph County Honor Guard. His family will receive friends on Thursday, August 4, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
