James Sanford "Buddy" Corns

HIGH POINT- James Sanford “Buddy” Corns, 99, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017.

He was born in Patrick County, VA on September 11, 1917, son of the late Lemuel David and Esther Biggs Corns.  He proudly served his country in the US Army, and was a WWII veteran.  A resident of this area for 40 years, he retired from REA Express after 30 years of service, and later retired from the City of High Point.  He was a longtime member of Oak View Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge in Kannapolis.  Buddy enjoyed spending time in the outdoors; especially walking on the farm and eating apples.  His true love and passion was spending time with his family.  In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was a sister, Dena Corns Beeson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 78 years, Nellie Wright “Suga” Corns of the home; his son, Jerry Corns of High Point, NC; grandchildren, James Corns of New York City, NY, Kristian Corns of San Diego, CA; his daughter Karen Rabb of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren Amy Howell and husband Chris of Raleigh, NC, great-grandchildren Shelby Howell and Beckham Howell; Alex Rabb and wife Kym of Winterville, NC, great-grandchild Aiden Rabb; and James Mitchell “Mitch” Rabb and wife Tiffany of Knoxville, TN.

A service to celebrate Buddy’s life will be held on Monday, May 22, at 12 noon in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, NC.  Pastor Steve Smith will officiate.  Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park, with military rites accorded by the Randolph County Honor Guard.  His family will receive friends on Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
