James Daniel Hilton, age 79, husband of Linda Barbee Hilton, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022.
Born in Kannapolis on December 2, 1942, he was a son of the late Bim Daniel Hilton and Dora Britt Hilton. Mr. Hilton was a retired Deputy with the Union County Sheriff’s Office. In addition, he had a 17 year career at Wingate University. He was a Mason and member of Meadow Branch Lodge #578 in Wingate. Mr. Hilton enjoyed his time as an A.L. Brown High School Wonder where he was an award winning football player and he went on to play football at Appalachian State University. He was a graduate of Wingate Junior College and Appalachian State University. Mr. Hilton enjoyed following Appalachian State University and Wingate University sports. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was affectionately known as “Paw Paw”.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, Mr. Hilton is survived by four children, Chris Hilton (Kim), Britt Hilton, Jamie Shepherd (David), and Susie Hilton; five grandchildren, Alexander Hilton (Mulatawork), Anna Catherine D’Orazio (Robbie), Atkinson Pilsch (Jonathan), Hannah Shepherd, and Luke Shepherd; two brothers, Gerald Hilton (Sandra) and Gwin Hilton (Sally); and two sisters, Delores Evans and Deana Millan (Nicolas).
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 1:00 PM at West Point Baptist Church, 1100 Pine Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081 conducted by Rev. Brett Barbee. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the church prior to the service.
