Mr. Jerry Mills Sr., 81, resident of High Point, died June 17, 2021 at Hospice Home at High Point.
He was born March 26, 1940 in Guilford County, a son to the late Rush and Anne Poteat Mills. Jerry was a resident of this area all his life. He was a racecar driver for 27 years, winning over 200 races. Jerry also was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Life Community Church, and an avid shag dancer. Preceding him in death was his first wife, Phenie Ann Mills; four sisters, Iva Lee Bradshaw, Dora Matthews, Bernice Jones, Mildred Rollins; and two brothers, Henry Mills Sr. and Rush Mills Jr.
Surviving is his wife Jane Mills of the residence; three daughters, Janet Kendrick (Rodney) of Bowdon, GA, Teresa Gray (Terry) of Randleman, and Jerrilynn Alexander (Bobby) of Asheboro; a son, Jerry Mills Jr. (Terrie) of Trinity; a sister, Josephine Barnes of Trinity; six grandchildren, Daniel Link of Welcome, Savannah Buck of Trinity, Katherine Kendrick of Georgia, Autumn Mills (Zack) of Thomasville, Justin Mills of Trinity, and Austin Mills of Trinity; three great grandchildren, Bryson Sloan, Braydon Sloan, and Preston Nance; and his two dogs, Buddy and Bo.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
