High Point - On May 19, 2020, Rev. Jimmy Herron went home to be with his Lord and Savior. Born December 29, 1931 in Lowell, NC to Doyle and Julia Herron, Jimmy spent most of his life as a minister. He married Gloria Combs Herron while in the Navy in 1952. He was a Bishop with the Church of God, pastoring for forty years. His ministry began in 1957 and he retired from full time ministry in 1997. He pastored churches in Louisiana, Georgia, Pennsylvania and NC. His pastorate included churches in Wake Forest, Longview, Bladenboro, Maiden, China Grove, High Point, Morganton, Greensboro, Winston Salem, Troutman, Norwood, Seagrove, and Reidsville. He and Gloria had two children, Garry, who preceded him in death and Cheryl (Cheri). After Gloria's death in 2001, he married Becky Hines Herron, who preceded him in death on May 19, 2013.
In addition to his parents, Gloria, Becky and his son Garry, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Eddie, who both passed away within the last 12 weeks.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheri (Glenn) Andrews; four grandchildren, Amanda (Drew) Andrews Sparks, Garry (Lindsey) Herron, Kyle Herron and Wil Andrews; four great grandchildren, Keegan, Oliver, Kitt and Knox; his daughter-in-law, Pam Herron; one brother, Billy (Jerrie) Herron; sisters-in-law, Rachel Herron and Oleta Herron; and beloved nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The public is invited to pay their respects Friday afternoon from 12 until 5 at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
