Mrs. Joan Elizabeth Jester Smith, 83, former resident of Malibu Drive in High Point and most recently residing on North Forrest Drive in Thomasville, passed away Thursday, February 14.
Joan was born on February 15, 1935 in High Point, NC, a daughter of the late William Clayborn Jester and Sadie Elizabeth Shipwash. Following her high school graduation, she began her career in banking, serving in several positions, including as a teller. Joan enjoyed crossword puzzles, as well as baking. Most importantly, she loved and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving is her daughter, Debbie Foster (Bill) of Thomasville and her son Jeff Smith (Tina) of Trinity; grandsons Mark Barker (Shawn) and Richie Barker (Ruth Ann); granddaughters Summer and Harley, and great-grandchildren Gabe Barker, Jake Lemley and Regan Barker. In addition, she is survived by many nieces, cousins, special friends and a special sister-in-law, Rhonda Moody. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Smith; and sister, Betty Lewallen. She will be cherished as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Cumby Family Funeral Service on Eastchester Drive in High Point. Rev. Larry Taylor will officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 12:45 p.m. Sunday at Cumby’s and following at the Thomasville residence.
