Tribute

Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all, John K. Donohue passed away peacefully Thursday morning, September 29, 2022 in High Point, NC. He was 69 years old. John was born to the late Joseph G. and Virginia Donohue in Brooklyn, NY. He was raised and lived most of his life on Long Island, NY in Amityville and West Islip. John and his wife of 47 years, Elaine moved to Randleman, NC in 2015.

John spent his professional career as a studio mechanic in the New York City area. For thirty plus years he worked behind the scenes in dozens of movies, Broadway plays, commercials and concerts. His work was highly regarded by everyone in the industry, including his coworkers, directors, producers and celebrities.

In his NY years, John lived close to the Great South Bay on the South Shore of Long Island. There, he loved going to the beach, boating and fishing.  After his retirement to NC, John enjoyed working his 3 acre spread in Randleman that included among many other activities, renting and running heavy excavating equipment to improve his property. He was an expert carpenter and everyone marveled at the quality of the things he built.  He was very fond of the classic car hobby and attended a number of car shows in the area. He loved traveling throughout NC with Elaine and friends and he enjoyed finding the best local places to lunch in many of the small towns along the way.  Most of all he treasured spending time with his family of four children, three grandchildren, several siblings and many nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his parents, his loving eldest son John Edward Donohue and his younger brother Kevin Donohue.  He is survived by his wife, Elaine, his daughter Maureen Ross her husband Ben and two grandchildren Amelia and Molly from Greensboro; Amanda Donohue-Motz, her husband Jacob and grandson Knox from Atlanta; and John’s son, Patrick Donohue from Brooklyn, NY.  John also leaves four siblings: his older brother Joseph Donohue and his wife Dana from Queens, NY, his sister Kathleen McNeil and her husband Richard from Babylon, NY, his sister Ginger Harney and her husband Greg and his sister Christine Pace and her husband Len, both from High Point, NC.
