John Lee Howell

Mr. John Lee Howell of High Point passed at his home on Saturday, July 13, 2019.

John was born in Asheboro on November 4, 1935 to the late C.C. “Red” Howell and Berta Megs Howell.  In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death in 2015 by his wife, Virginia Lea Whitesell Howell; his son, Carl Howell; two brothers, Jim and Bob Howell; a sister, Phyllis Cooper.

John was a member at Lebanon United Methodist Church and attended the Christian Fellowship class, where he loved to lead the Sunday School class in song.  He was also a member of the United Methodist Men at Lebanon UMC.  He was an avid golfer and loved hunting.  He was employed with Carrick Turning, Carolina Solvents and owned Howell Sales Realtor and Auctioneer.  He was a member of the Army National Guard, District Governor of the Oakview Lions from 1976 until 1980.  He was the President of the NCLHB from 1984 until 1985.  He was a lifetime member of the NC Numismatic Association, the NC Auction Association and a member of the NC Eye and Tissue Bank.  He went to the Mendenhall School of Auctioneers in 1975 and was awarded the Melvin Jones award in 1986 and 1987.

Those who will cherish John’s memories are his daughter, Terri Howell Proctor of High Point; four grandchildren, Hannah, Brandon, Gretchen, Heather and his seven great-grandchildren, Isaac, Noah, Dawson, Bella, Channing, and Paige and Gavin. His two sisters Virginia Cooper and Sue King. He will also be missed by his many friends and church members.

Visitation will be held at Lebanon United Methodist Church from 10:00 to 11:00. A memorial service to honor John’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 17th at 11:00am at Lebanon United Methodist Church, 237 Idol Street in High Point, with Reverend Timothy James officiating.  A private inurnment for the family will follow service.
