John Wayne Mitchell passed away Sunday, October 27, 2019 at High Point Medical Center. John was born on January 16, 1941 in High Point to the late R.E. Mitchell and the late Mary McMillan Mitchell. He was a lifelong resident of High Point and was a graduate of High Point Central High School.
Throughout his entire adult life, John managed his family's portfolio of investment properties. After taking up photography as a hobby, he became an accomplished photographer for over 30 years covering a wide variety of events from weddings to modeling shoots. He was also retired from Kepley's Barn after 26 years of service.
Though his professional commitments demanded much of his time, John always found time for countless escapes to his prized coastal destination of Emerald Isle.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by seven siblings. He was also preceded in death by his longtime companion, Jane Ellington. John is survived by his brother, Ronnie Mitchell, and a nephew, Ronnie Mitchell, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service Chapel in High Point.
