April 8, 1934 ~ March 21, 2024 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Tribute

John "Jack" Randall Davis, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on March 21, 2024.

Fondly known as Jack, Daddy, and Geda, he was born on April 8, 1934 in Richmond, Virginia to John Randall Davis and Catherine Anderson Davis. He attended Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson, N.C. and graduated from Oak Ridge Military Academy in Oak Ridge, N.C. in 1952. He attended N.C. State University from 1952 to 1954, served in the U.S Air Force from 1955 to 1957, attended Atlantic Christian College and graduated from there in 1959. He received a Master’s Degree from East Carolina University in 1961.

Jack worked as an Industrial Engineer for Burlington Industries at various locations in Virginia and North Carolina from 1961 until his retirement in 1986.  He worked as an independent engineering consultant for several years following his retirement from Burlington.

Jack was married to Patricia Ann Lewis (Pat) on November 26, 1959. They had one daughter, Nan. Their family was small but their love was large! Jack was blessed with two grandsons, Zack and Davis.

The other “loves” of Jack’s life besides his family were golf, NCSU athletics, and being outdoors. He enjoyed playing and watching golf throughout the years, especially participating in senior golf league play and volunteering with the Charlie Turner Junior Golf Tournaments in Jamestown. A favorite tradition of the family was attending NCSU football games, no matter where the family lived. Tailgating and cheering for NCSU created many fun and happy memories for Jack and his “Pack”. Jack was especially happy that his 2 grandsons followed in his footsteps to attend N.C. State.

Jack is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Pat; their daughter, Nan Davis Fleming (Hunter) of Wilson, N.C.; grandson, Dr. Zachary Lee Fleming (McKenzie); grandson, John Davis Fleming (Catherine). He is also survived by his nephew, Robert Alvin Davis (Svetlana); niece, Susan Davis Letendre (Drew) and cousin, Doris Whitt.

Pat and Nan would especially like to thank Neal Craddock, Kimberly and Lester Dorie, and Hospice of Alamance County nurses Sally and April for their loving care of Jack in his final weeks at home with hospice care. We are also grateful to Dr. Mark Perini, Dr. John Wrenn and Dr. Nina Browner for their amazing care over the years.
