John” Ray "Johnny" France, 85, of High Point went home to be with Jesus Wednesday October 23, 2019 at the Meridian Center in High Point.
A 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service will be held Saturday November 2, 2019 at Saint Mary’s United Methodist Church, 5583 Rockford Drive, Trinity, 27370. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Johnny was born in Westfield on September 1, 1934, the son of the late John France and the late Connie Love (France) Matthews. He was of the Baptist faith and was a retired self-employed brick mason. Johnny attended Trinity Schools and William Penn High School. He was a U S Army veteran.
In addition to his parents Johnny was preceded in death by a daughter Donna Faye McCombs; two sisters, Mae Lee France and Berlie Sims; brother, Clarence France and two-step-brothers.
John is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann Wharton, Stella Reynolds and Connie Steele; a son, Antonio Watson; sister, Betsy Matthews McFadden; one brother, Robert France; 11 grandchildren, 9 great- grandchildren and 1- great-great-grandchild; two special sister-in-laws; special aunt, Wilma Speas; special nephews, Gary “Terrell” Sellars and Calvin France and numerous nieces,nephews and cousins.
Johnny devoted his life to pleasing others. His was like a father to all his nieces, nephews and cousins. Johnny played for the Colored Traveling Baseball Team in Trinity.
The family would like to extend thanks to Cumby Family Funeral Service and Phillips Funeral Service, for their many acts of kindness shown to the family, in the loss of our father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle.
