Joseph Michael ‘Joe’ Albany, Jr., 22, passed away August 11, 2017, due to injuries sustained as a passenger in a car accident.  He was born August 10, 1995, in High Point, and was a graduate of High Point Central High School where he played football all four years.  He was attending East Carolina University to obtain a degree in Electrical Engineering, and was currently serving an internship at Corning.  Joe was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was also a distinguished shooter and achieved numerous President’s 100 Awards.

Joe was a hard worker who never met a stranger and was always willing to help others.  He touched the lives and hearts of many and had a wonderful smile that would light up any room.

Survivors include his mother, Lissa Wood Albany; father and step mother, Joseph Michael and Diane Albany; brother, Andrew Harris Albany; sister, Isabella Rose Albany; paternal grandmother, Theresa Cassidy Albany; aunts and uncles, Frank H. Wood, III, Theresa Albany Huke (David), Edward Albany (Suzanne), Nancy Albany, Thomas Albany  (Donna Kay), John Albany (Kathy), Mary Ellen Harbaugh  (Tom), Cecilia Booth (Russ) and Rosemary Foster (Greg) ; and cousins, Kevin Huke, Timmy Huke, Cheyanne Huke, Kelsey Egge, Sean Egge, Tommy Albany, Caitlin Albany, Gracie Albany, Brian Albany, Alyssa Albany, Mollie Warner, Matt Warner, John J Albany, Colleen Albany, Megan Harbaugh, Tommy Harbaugh, Tess Harbaugh, Eddie Harbaugh, Bradley Harbaugh, Rusty Booth, Ashley Booth, Patrick Booth, Julie Rose Booth, Bryan Foster, Angelica Foster, Kara LeClair, Josh LeClair, Lauren Calvert, Jeff Calvert, Erin Albany and Eddie Albany.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Frank H. ‘Chip’ Wood, Jr. and Mary Wall Wood; and his paternal grandfather, Edward Michael Albany.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in High Point with Father Vincent E. Smith, O.S.F.S. and Rev. Dr. Jeff Patterson officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, and to celebrate the life and legacy of Joseph Michael Albany, Jr., his family has established the Joseph Michael Albany, Jr. Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro.  Joe was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was also an accomplished marksman and achieved the President’s 100 awarded by the Civilian Marksmanship Program numerous times.  The Joseph Michael Albany, Jr. Memorial Fund will support organizations whose missions involve sharing Joe’s passions for engineering, marksmanship, the outdoors and community service.  To honor Joe in this way, please visit the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro’s donation page at https://netcommunity.cfgg.org/new-page-for-give-online/donate-now.  Or one may make a memorial contribution in Joe's name to the charity of your choice.
