HIGH POINT – Joseph Edwin Coggins, 81, died Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at his residence after a courageous battle with ALS.

He was born November 27, 1936, in High Point and was the son of the late John Wesley and Eula Swaim Coggins.  He was a long-time active member of Life on Lexington Church (formerly Lexington Avenue Baptist Church), was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the High Point Civitan Club.  At the age of 50, Joseph retired from Miller Optical as a Surface Foreman in order to manage his rental property, Coggins Realty.  Those who knew Joe knew of his love and admiration of his wife, “Potts,” and his beaming pride of his children and grandchildren.  Joe was also a people person who loved a good time and good food.  He was a good story teller and lived life to the fullest.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen Zimmerman Coggins; two sons, Joseph Christopher Coggins and his wife, Robin, of High Point and Jeffrey Dale Coggins and his wife, Paula, of Charlotte; one daughter, Julie Coggins LaRue and her husband, Nick, of High Point; and seven grandchildren, Stephen Coggins and his wife, Jessica, Andrew Coggins, Jonathan Coggins, Graham Coggins, Jason Coggins, Adair Coggins, and Bailey LaRue.

Funeral service celebrating Joseph’s life will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 18, 2018, at Life on Lexington Church with the Pastor Deon Parker officiating.  Burial will follow at Floral Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
