Tribute

THOMASVILLE-Joseph Levern Housand, Jr., 61, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 31, 2022, after a courageous and valiant fight with ALS, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 21, 1961 in Davidson County, a son of Joseph Levern Housand, Sr, and Verlie Justice Boswell. A lifelong resident of this area, he was a 1980 graduate of Trinity High School and later went to work with Tommy’s barbecue hopping curb and learning the barbecue business. In late 2007 he established BBQ Joe’s Country Cooking and Catering in High Point, along with his wife Patti and son Joe, III. In June 2015 they opened a second location in Trinity, NC. If you came into his barbecue restaurant, he wanted to make you feel welcome and feel like family. He was the kindest and most gentle man you had ever met. That’s just the way he was and his customer’s loved him. He loved taking care of people would feed the less fortunate and donated to other charitable organizations in the community. He was a long-time member and deacon of Full Gospel Miracle Ministries and was an honorary Colonel with the High Point Police Department. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered as a man who had a servant’s heart, who loved his Lord and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many and will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Levern Housand, Sr.; his mother, Verlie Justice Boswell; a brother, Greg Housand and his step father, V.L. Boswell.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife of 41 years; Patti White Housand of the home; his son, Joseph Levern Housand III and his wife, Stephanie of Thomasville; his brother, Paul Housand and his wife, Marcia of Thomasville; his granddaughter, Savanna and a number of nieces and nephews.
