On the afternoon of October 28, 2019, the sky broke open, allowing God’s sunshine to fill our hearts and souls. In that moment, Joyce Jordan Kanoy, devoted servant, went to be with her Lord and Savior, whom she had faithfully served.
Joyce was born March 8, 1937 in Guilford County to the late Lawrence N. and Ruby Harmon Jordan. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Denzel Gray Kanoy in 1997.
After graduating from her beloved Allen Jay High School, she went to work for Wachovia Bank & Trust Company in High Point as a teller and retired as an Assistant Vice President in June 1996 with 41 years of service.
Surviving are two sons, Timothy Gray Kanoy and wife, Chris of High Point, Paul Jordan Kanoy and wife, Jackie of Irmo, South Carolina; grandchildren, Misty Long and husband, Gary, David Kanoy, Jonathan Kanoy; sister, Margaret Beck and husband Arnold. Also, best friend and adopted family member, Jan Sanders, as well as a host of friends.
Her family and friends acknowledge with grateful hearts the blessing of her life. She leaves a legacy of grace and strength in the face of her illness and unconditional commitment to her faith.
Joyce was always an active member of her church serving over the years as a Board member, choir director, finance committees member, children’s music, choir member and many other responsibilities. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang for many weddings and funerals.
For many years she was a faithful member of the American Business Women’s Association serving in many capacities. She also had the honor of being elected ABWA Woman of the Year.
A celebration of her life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at Oak Hill Friends Meeting in High Point with Reverend John Sides and Reverend David Emery officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive in High Point.
