Joyce (White) Nelson

Mrs. Joyce Juliette White Nelson, 76, resident of Sophia, died November 15, 2020 at her home.

She was born February 17, 1944 in Guilford County, a daughter to the late Frank and Lettie White.  As a resident of this area all her life, she worked several years in the commercial loan department at First Union Bank and later as church secretary for 25 years at Reavis Memorial Baptist Church.  She also was a member of Unity Baptist Fellowship in Sophia.  On June 7, 1963, she married Joseph (Joe) Ezekiel Nelson Jr. who survives of the residence.

Also surviving is her son, Joseph Franklin Nelson and wife Torri of Sophia; a brother, Donald White formerly of Sophia; four grandchildren, Kristal Roach and husband Travis, Jonah Scruggs, Jacob Scruggs and wife Brianna, and Victoria Coley; four great grandchildren, Jason, Skylar, Nate, and Serenity; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jonathan Michael Nelson.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23, at Unity Baptist Fellowship in Sophia.  Visitation will immediately follow the service at the church.  Memorials may be made to Unity Baptist Fellowship, 4918 Old Marlboro Rd.
