Kenneth Michael Kochekian, age 75, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by friends and family on August 14, 2018.
Ken was born December 25, 1942 in New York City, the son of Jack and Dorothy Davidian Kochekian.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Business from the University of Tampa and went on to earn his Master’s Degree from New York University.
Ken had an enormous passion for furniture and leather. He started in the furniture industry by producing hand-carved reproduction chairs in New York City for his stepfather, Rudy. In 1971 he moved to High Point, North Carolina with his family to pursue his lifelong career in the leather industry. His passion of leather allowed him to travel the world. He manufactured leather furniture in Thomasville and High Point and has spent the last 20 years serving as the “Maestro” of Universal Leather, Furniture City Warehouse and Universal Industrial Park.
Outside of managing his companies, you could find Ken on the golf course. He was an avid player and enjoyed the time he spent with his friends on the golf course. He was a longtime member of Willow Creek Country Club.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Dr. Karen Kochekian; and brother, Tommy Telaro.
Surviving are his daughter, Kristen Kochekian; son, K. Michael Kochekian; half-sister, Darcy Telaro; and his beloved dog, Elza Kochekian.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm Friday, August 17, in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Dr. Jeff Patterson officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 7027 Albert Pick Rd.
