Mr. Kenneth “Chief” Ray Thompson, 73, of Trinity, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.
Born August 26, 1944, in Pembroke, Kenneth was the son of the late William and Nevada R. Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Payne, seven brothers, Joe, Paul, R.D., Cain, Johnny, Willie French, and William Henry Thompson, and two sisters, Betty Thompson and Ellen Deese. Kenneth was an established musician and had a profound love of music. He owned and operated Ken’s Car Clean-Up in High Point, and was a member of Emerge Church in Archdale.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shelby French Thompson; children, Sherry Bolen and husband, Benny, of Sophia, and Donald Thompson and wife, Bonnie, of Sophia; four grandchildren, Eric Payne and wife, Katherine, Jeremy Payne, Lynn Clarr and husband, Justin, and Baylee Thompson; two great grandsons, Jacob and Jeremiah Payne; five sisters, Silver Lee Failu’re, Lois Locklear, Catherine Strickland, Marie Brooks, and Peggy Spurlin; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Kenneth’s life will be Wednesday night from 6 until 8 at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. Memorial graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Frankie Gentry.
