TRINITY – Larry Bolton Waitman, 82, died Friday, March 20, 2020, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.
He was born May 25, 1937, in Davidson County and was the son of the late Harper Foil and Mary Lee Myers Waitman. He was a graduate of Reeds High School in Lexington and a 1958 graduate of High Point College. He retired from Medical Software Specialists where he served as a computer programmer and analyst. Larry was a member of Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting where he was a member of the Faithful Friends Sunday school class and a former member of the Quaker Men. He started Scout Troop #72 at the meeting in 1972 and was an avid deer hunter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Juan Vestal Waitman.
Larry is survived by his wife of sixty years, Vera Kindley Waitman, whom he married on September 19, 1959; three children, Larry Waitman and wife, Robin, of Sevierville, Tennessee, Craig Waitman and wife, Lori, of Thomasville, and Melodie Rush and husband, Gary, of Greensboro; nine grandchildren, Josh Waitman (Shana), Stephen Waitman (Kelly), Megan Higgins (Jason), Joy Curol (Nick), Jason Fowler, Marilyn Fowler Zickefroose (Zac), Noah Waitman (Tiffany), Meghan Ross (Josh), and Brittani Edwards (Travis); twenty great-grandchildren; and sister, Judith Waitman Parks (Jerry) of Lexington.
Funeral service celebrating Larry’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 22, 2020, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Dave Mercadante officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church Cemetery in Trinity.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 PM Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service. Due to current restrictions for mass gatherings, attendance numbers will be monitored.
