ARCHDALE-Lewis Alan Stroud, 86, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019.
He was born on November 21, 1932 in High Point, to the late Godfrey and Annie Craver Stroud. A resident of this area all his life, he was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War and later went to work for North State, retiring after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Archdale/Trinity Lions, and Archdale United Methodist Church; where he was a member of the Friendship Class, the Administrative Board, and the United Methodist Men. He had served as a judge for the local voting polls, and as a volunteer firefighter with the GuilRand Fire Department, for several years. Lewis enjoyed wood working, pondering on how to make things work, and building replicas of Lighthouses. He was featured as one of Roy’s Folks in 2009, showcasing his talents of replicating Lighthouses. He also enjoyed traveling, and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all, including special friends, Helen Mendenhall and Ray White. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his wife, Rachel Scearce Stroud and his sister, Kathleen Hughes.
He is survived by his daughters, Debra White (Marshall) and Karen Walker (Michael); his brother, Leonard Stroud (Jackie); his grandchildren, Dustin Ivy (Cara), Jessica Todd (Nicholas), SSgt Richard Ivy (Marilyn), Ian White, (Julia), Brittany Scott (Aaron), and Megan Walker (Vitaliy); his great grandchildren, Michael Ivy, Lily Anne Todd, and Wyatt Todd, and nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Lewis’ life will be held on Tuesday morning, May 28, at 11 o’clock, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, with Reverend Allan Van Meter and Reverend Harold Shives officiating. The committal service will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Monday evening, from 5 until 7, at the funeral home.
