ARCHDALE- Lewis Eugene “Gene” Coltrane, 83, entered into eternal rest, on Sunday, September 2, 2018.
He was born in Randolph County on April 25, 1935 to Joe and Eva Jones Coltrane. A resident of this area all of his life, he retired from Duke Power, after 37 years of service, and was past president of the Duke Power Retirees Association. He was a long time active member of Cedar Square Friends Meeting; where he was a member of the Adult Sunday school class, served as head of the cemetery committee, and in various other capacities over the years. Gene enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and was known for his “cantaloupes” he grew. He enjoyed listening to Gospel music; especially listening to his family sing, whether it was his father, or his brother, Richard, or sister, Becky. His true love and passion was spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend, and will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his son, Rick Coltrane; his daughter in-law, Donna Gilmore Coltrane; 2 brothers, Richard and Horace “Snook” Coltrane, and a sister, Joyce Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife of 65 years, Faye Peele Coltrane; his sons, Tommy Coltrane and his wife, Melody, Steve Coltrane; his sister, Becky Coltrane, his brother, Jody Coltrane and his wife, Mary; his sister in-laws, Dianne Coltrane and Frances Coltrane. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jennifer Campbell and her husband, Jamie, Jason Coltrane and his wife, Jessica, Christina Hatch and her husband, Matthew, Blair Coltrane, Leslie Veach and her husband, Shannon, Katy Jenks, and Jeannie Hedrick; his great grandchildren, Timothy Jeran Rook, Coral Brianne Hatch, Vivian Faye Campbell, Alexandria Jade Hedrick, Loralye Rae Veach, Riley Elizabeth Hatch, Colton Ray Campbell, Lathan Parker Coltrane, Lawson Cade Coltrane, Arnold Christian Hedrick, Dillon Ray Veach, Savannah Nicole Hedrick, Adrian Cole Jenks, Cohen Michael Hatch, Addyson Faye Coltrane, and Rylan Eli Jenks, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Gene’s life will be held on Thursday evening, September 6, at 5 o’clock, at Cedar Square Friends Meeting, with Reverend Michael Fulp and Pastor Ben Hurley officiating. His family will receive friends on Thursday evening following the service, in Cedar Square Friends Fellowship Hall.
